Farm-Tractor-Equipment Worker

Summary

The Farm/Tractor/Equipment employee’s primary responsibility is to carry out general duties on the farm. The main duties will take place outside of the barn, but may at times be needed for maintenance inside the barn. Assignments may include but are not limited to; spreading liquid manure, reclaiming arable land with mulchers, excavators and bulldozers, maintenance on equipment (ie movable –  tractors, and stationary – mill augers). Farm work will also include receiving grain both at PPF and at sister company APG, as well as other products arriving or shipping at both locations. This position is also responsible for keeping work areas clean and organized, which may include power washing the facility and mill area.

Job Duties

  • Drive and operate tractors and equipment in spreading manure.
  • Use tractors, mulchers, excavators and bulldozers to reclaim arable land.
  • Operates all equipment in accordance with established safety standards and proper vehicle operation techniques.
  • Conducts a walk-about pre-start up and end of the day inspection, check brakes daily 
  • Oversees and maintains records of all aspects of vehicle maintenance including: daily check of brakes and signal indicators, check all fluid levels daily and refills equipment as required. 
  • Immediately report anything that doesn’t appear to be in good working order
  • Receive and ship grain and other products at Pure Pork Farms and sister location Atlantic Pure Grains
  • Support with other farmyard activities and maintenance.
  • Operate milling of feed with the on-farm mill.
  • Adhere to bio-security standards
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area daily
  • Ensure that the farm’s work environment is safe by using safety equipment and following safety protocols
  • Perform maintenance work as required on on-farm mill, bins, augers and at times equipment inside the barn.
  • Troubleshoot problems with equipment
  • Assist other farm employees in completing needed tasks of the day
  • Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned

  • Have a valid clean safe drivers license
  • Ability to work alone or in a team environment

Work Conditions / Physical Demands / Safety requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Able to stand/walk/bend for extended periods of time
  • Good body flexibility (much bending and twisting)
  • Must be physically fit
  • Have good mobility with ability to move quickly
  • Ear protection in high noise areas
  • Breathing mask in dusty areas
  • Follow all company safety procedures and regulations
  • Ability to work overtime including weekends or holidays with some advance notice
  • Must provide their own steel toe boots
